Khachanov Pick: Over 36.5 @ 56c Reason: This is a matchup Zverev knows extremely well and one he has already solved several times. Both are tall, powerful baseliners who want to dictate from the back of the court, and as Zverev himself said, whoever manages to be the more aggressive player should have the advantage. When Zverev gives Khachanov time to set up his forehand, the Russian can absolutely hurt him. But when Sascha takes the initiative, his superior backhand, movement and overall consistency become a huge problem. The problem I’m having with this matchup is that you can’t dismiss Khachanov’s run in this tournament. He defeated FAA 3-1, Bonzi 3-0 and Tien 3-2, and those were all very good performances. He also played the injured Blockx, at first glance you might not give him much credit for that, but his ball placement, aggressiveness, ball weight and movement were excellent until Blockx retired. Meanwhile, Zverev’s last match against Zandschulp wasn’t that good. He hit too many double faults on serve, was too passive, finished with 28 unforced errors and only 22 winners. In fact, Zandschulp had more winners than him (but also more unforced errors). It felt more like Zandschulp having a bad day than a strong performance from Zverev. Conclusion: If Zverev plays his best tennis, Khachanov will have big problems stopping him. But if Khachanov maintains his tournament level, this won’t be a straight-sets win for Zverev. *Bet responsibly.
